container tips and ideas
.

  • DOWN SPOUT WATER CONTAINERS.
  • Materials needed: Three 50 gal water storage containers, a tube of silicone caulking, a caulking gun, skill saw,  8" by 2" diameter PVC pipe, PVC fittings, porous sponge, charcoal, and plastic drain grid.
  •  Collect your rain water with water storage containers. First cut a plastic water storage container in half. These two water storage container halves will service two down spouts. Drill holes in the center bottom of the water storage container halves large enough to fit a 4" by 2" diameter PVC pipe with silicone glue and fittings. Cut porous sponge, and plastic drain grid the diameter of the water storage container half. Fit the plastic drain grid in bottom of the water storage containers first and then the porous sponge. Then  a 2" layer of charcoal should work well. Now stack the half water storage container on top of a full 50 gallon water storage container barrel. What you now have is a down spout rain water filtering system for drinking water. Another option is to leave out the filter system and use the water for your gardening needs.

                               Survival Tip #1
Don't forget to stock up on water. There's water filtering products available that filters very well in time of need  as survival  "outdoor  equipment" . Drinking dirty water is not what you would want to do.
If  you find there's a shortage of your water supply, the water filtering product on your list will do you well. But, the  first thing you must do is get yourself a large amount of water. Even if it is river water, and build  a tripod out of any type of material. The tripod must be built in a manner that you can place a cloth over the tripod, and use the cloth as a filter. Place a container under the cloth and pour the water through the cloth, and into the container. Then boil your water to a rolling boil for about ten minutes.
Use bleach with sodium hypochlorite as its only active ingredient. Depending  if the water is clear, or if the water is cloudy like river water, you would add this recommended dose of hypochlorite bleach. Clear water add two drops for every quart and eight drops for every gallon. For cloudy water you would add  sixteen drops for every gallon and four drops for every quart. Iodine is the other ingredient that you need with two percent  tincture. Clear water three drops per quart and  twelve drops per gallon. Cloudy water use twenty four drops per gallon and six drops per quart. Let the water sit for about an hour. During  that hour, the bleach and iodine is killing off the bad bacteria, and parasites that were not killed during the boiling process. Now use your filtering devise from your "survivalist gear"of your "outdoor survival  supplies" and filter that water one more time. This process not only gives you good drinking water, but also saves you from going through to many filters from your "survivalist kit".
